European Commission Adopts Strategy to Promote Equal Opportunities for Children

On March 24, 2021, the European Commission adopted a Strategy on the Rights of the Child and a proposal for a Council Recommendation establishing a European Child Guarantee. It focuses on six areas of action: (1) enabling children to participate in civic and democratic life, (2) building inclusive standards to combat child poverty and social exclusion, (3) combating gender-based and domestic violence, (4) developing child-friendly legal proceedings, (5) promoting and providing a safe online experience for children, and (6) devoting a percentage of humanitarian aid to protect children globally.
